Make Your Interior Paint Job Shine with the Right Finish

When I decided to have my basement repainted last year, I was less than satisfied with my choice of Calgary painters.  At first, I thought I would be able to save myself some money, but boy, was I wrong.  The contractors did a slipshod job of painting the basement – the cracks started appearing almost as soon as I took the “Wet Paint” sign off.  Most of it, actually, boiled down to the painters choosing the wrong type of finish.  So what is the “right type” of paint finish anyway if you want to save yourself the agony and do your own interior house painting?

It would actually depend on your personal tastes, requirements and skill level.  If you want your walls to sparkle and shine, then high gloss is your best choice.  It’s important that before you apply such paint, you should make sure that you have sanded and primed the surface first.  But if you want something simple, something that could offer you a wide range of colors to choose from, a flat finish would be more apropos.  It is less prone to cracking, and does not reflect light back – that’s exactly what happened with my Calgary paint job.  That’s something that could have been avoided had the guy gone for a matte or flat finish instead.  Finally, if you want something a cut above flat, then satin, semi-gloss or eggshell offer additional sparkle while doing a fairly good job of hiding the flaws.

The safest thing to do would be to hire a reliable and credible Calgary painters, but if you’re painting your home’s interiors yourself, then make sure you choose the right finish and complete the necessary prep work before painting.
